The Forgotten Demographic Who Needs Your Home Based Business

As 2008 winds down we as entrepreneurs, need to focus on building a strong foundation for our home-based business in 2009, which soon will be upon us. There are discussions in every household around the world about the changes that will be taking place, globally, locally and in all of our homes. As people are preparing for what might be the worst economic times that we have faced in some time they are searching for a way to lessen that impact personally.

No longer should we take for granted that our parents and maybe even grandparents will be fine when everyone else struggles. Those that were born between 1925 to 1945 (the Silent Generation they are called) started out their life with many trials and tribulations. Between the Great Depression and a World War their numbers are few. As that generation grew and started to become self-sufficient there were many jobs to be found. “They were probably luckier than the baby boom,” states David Foot, author of Boom, Bust and Echo. “They entered the job market in the 1950’s were promoted quickly, they did better than they ever expected to do and they’re the ones who are probably the richest people in the country.” They did exactly what was expected of them just like the generation before them. “They were conservative, hard-working and they lived well below their means. They were not big spenders and did not run up trillion dollars of credit card debt,” states Ken Gronbach author of the Age Curve: How to Profit from the Coming Demographic Storm. This silent generation saved more and accumulated less debt. The future was supposed to be bright.

Fast forward to 2008, the markets are falling, pension plans are crumbling, the years that were supposed to be golden just do not look so bright anymore. Those that were born in 1938 have to start their mandated withdrawals from their retirement funds in 2009. Due to the market collapse this past fall the majority of seniors are finding that they have lost 45 – 50 % of their retirement fund. What was meant to be a nest egg large enough to outlive them and allow these folks to live comfortably now looks like a broken dream. “These people have no recovery” Mr. Gronbach said. “Depending on how long they live, they’re going to have an interesting 10 – 15 years.”

Some will take what comes and hope for the best, some will sit quietly not wanting to burden their children and grandchildren but others have already started to actively look for another income to help offset their investment loss.

This Christmas and into the New Year we have to remember these people, do not be afraid to approach them and offer our business to them so they have a means to live out their life the way they originally thought that they would be doing, with financial stability.

These people raised us, taught us right from wrong, and helped us when we were down. Now is the time to repay that favor, offer a helping hand, encouraging words and insight into today’s marketplace.

The Twelve Success Factors in Your Home Based Business - Part 3

There is no easy way to become successful. It takes a lot of hard work and most of all perseverance. There are twelve factors that you can learn and once they are applied it will increase your ability for lasting success.

Self-Awareness

Self-awareness is being conscious of our actions, feelings, attitudes and their effects. Once we have full self-awareness we get to be much better at determining which actions benefit us and which actions do not.

We sometimes, as humans, have a tendency to make excuses for not achieving the goals that we have made for ourselves. Once we are aware of the excuses that we make and we stop blaming others we often start searching for ways that we can accomplish our goals rather than looking for the reasons why we cannot get something done.

Act “As If”

In order to achieve success we have to act as if we already have success. The video/book The Secret was very good at trying to get this point across. We attract to us the way that we think. If we act as if we will be successful we will become successful much quicker. You do of course still have to do the work to get there but you will attract success to you much quicker. I am not saying go buy a mansion, I am speaking about the traits that a successful person has. Those traits are that of focus, perseverance, dedication and passion.

Zero-Based Thinking

It sometimes becomes difficult to make decisions when we are trying to succeed. So we need to apply a technique called zero-based thinking. It is simply a matter of asking yourself a few questions that will clear your mind and give you an honest answer. The question is simply “If I was not doing this right now and knowing what I already know would I start it up again?” If you say no then you best change the path you are taking. If you say yes then stay focused and drive to the finish line.

Once you start to ask that simple question you can make decisions quickly and without distractions.

180 Days to Greatness – My Personal Journey, December 14, 2008

Hello Suzanne Lavigne here again with my update on the group that I am involved with called 180daystogreatness.

Again another action packed week that has been full of work and the urgency to get things accomplished. When building a home based business you have to move with a sense of urgency and our coach, Nadira Haniff makes sure that we do not get complacent. When you do, that is when you start to put other things before your business and before you know it your business is no longer the priority.

That being said, I do believe that family is still the priority but lets face it there are just some things that really do not need to get done daily. Take laundry for example, I have a family of five so I still do laundry every day but it definitely no longer gets folded on a daily basis. Heck our pool table has now taken on a new name. It is called the laundry table, if you want to find something that is washed you go look on the pool table and as far as playing a game of pool you have one night that it is open for playing before the laundry starts to be piled on again. Of course this is just an example but I know there are a lot of ladies that can appreciate that story and if someone complains tell them they can fold all the laundry themselves and I bet they will never complain again! As you can tell I do prioritize and my business will come before laundry any day.

This past week Nadira held a tele-seminar that was again a huge hit for those that attended. What was supposed to be a one hour long seminar turned out to be two and a half hours. The time went by so quickly as I sat intently watching the PowerPoint and listening to what was being said. This information ranged from business strategies, to marketing to list building and so much more. Information that is required by everyone who is growing their home based business both online and offline. These next 12 weeks are very crucial for your business as decisions are being made as we speak by households all over the world on ways to improve their life in the coming year. That could mean a healthier lifestyle, extra income etc. Everyone needs to prepare their business now for the growth that will be taking place in the next 12 weeks. Two Degrees of Separation

This is a principle that states if you habitually change something that you do everyday, even by the smallest amount, you can dramatically change you future.

Failure

Successful people know that failure precedes success but it is how you react to those failures that determine how successful you will be in life. You have to treat every failure as a learning experience, an opportunity to do better next time.

You have to learn to view failure as a stepping-stone to success. Then and only then will it bring us closer to our goals.

Positive Habits

Habits are activities that we do daily and because we have done them so often we do not have to think about them or put any effort into them. They just come naturally to us. The habits that you choose could change your life dramatically either in a negative or a positive way.

When you have a negative habit and you want to change it into something positive you do have to realize that sometimes things may get a little worse before they get better as it takes time for your conscious and unconscious mind to grasp what you are trying to do. Focus is the key here because without consciously focusing on the change you will not be able to change the habit for any length of time.

It is in your best interest to change those bad habits into good habits so you will enjoy future success.

There is no easy way to become successful. I have learned over time that there are really only twelve factors in your home based business and in your life that determine your success. It takes a lot of hard work and most of all perseverance. Once you learn these factors and they are applied it will increase your ability for lasting success.

Choices

Whether we like where we are in life at this present time or we dream of being someplace bigger and better we all have to realize that we are where we are today because of the choices that we have made in the past. We are 100 % responsible for where we are and once we all realize that then and only then are we mentally capable of moving on to greater success.

How we react to different situations in our day-to-day life dramatically affects the direction that you will be going. Remember success is a matter of choices and only you can make the choices that are right for you.

Positive Attitude

We all know the saying that the cup is either half full or half empty. Those with a positive attitude will always see the cup as half full and the bright side to any situation. People tend to follow others that think and act positively because they are more fun to be around. They are the ones that will have people follow them no matter what they are doing in life because they make people feel good about themselves. Those of us that tend to have a negative attitude seem to be depressed, lonely and miserable.

If you would like to succeed in life remember that attitude plays a bigger role then what you may think. A positive attitude is everything.

Focus

We need to learn to focus on the end results and accomplish tasks that are critical to our success. When working on daily tasks we need to ask ourselves, “Will that put us closer to achieving our goals” and if the answer is NO then we need to stop, refocus and start on another task so that we are heading in the right direction. When you have a home-based business it becomes very easy to do menial tasks that waste our time because there is no one around to hold us accountable.

When you learn to focus and act on the end results you head in that direction because you are not wasting a lot of time and energy doing the small, menial things. You focus on the goal, see the end result and you increase your ability to achieve success.

180 Days to Greatness - My Personal Journey December 7, 2008

Hello, Suzanne Lavigne here for my update on my personal journey in the group “180 Days to Greatness”. I cannot believe that it has been a month since I have sent an update out to everyone.

You may have thought that I had given up and decided to quit or that I was asked to leave because my performance was not what it should be, but it was neither. I have just been so darn busy trying to get all the activities completed that are required for me to grow my home based business to where I want it to be.

Things have not slowed down one little bit in the last month, instead they have gotten even busier. In this program, our coach and mentor Nadira Haniff makes sure that everything is done with a sense of urgency and once you apply that to your business it is hard not to act like that in other aspects of your life. I feel that my step is a little quicker and there is a bounce there that never use to be there. I have noticed people look at me in ways that they never use to also. It may be the smile that is on my face or the sense of determination that I now carry with me. Either way they are both because of the 180 days to greatness program. My future that I have been waiting for is finally within my grasp, I can see it and I will not let it slip through my fingers.

Network Marketing – It is not a Walk in the Park

It takes a certain kind of person to get involved in network marketing and succeed. That person has to be a self-starter and be ready to take on the world. They have to be ready for the ups and the downs and realize when they need to get educated in different areas of their business. You may know that you cannot do it on your own and you look for a great program that has a coach and a mentor that will teach you along the way. That is the very first step that should be taken for your success.

The myth that a network marketing business is easy has long been put to rest. I am not saying that your networking business will be physically hard, even though there will be a lot of sweat put into your business, but what I am saying is there are days when it is mentally challenging which can be just as hard, if not harder on you than manual labour.

Mentally you have to be strong because when it seems like you are not getting anywhere you have to be able to keep going. Also family and friends may mock you because of what you are doing because they do not have the same belief in the system and the program that you do. You also have to be prepared for the naysayers out there, those dream stealers, those people who will be negative no matter what you do just in case you do succeed. They do not want to see you succeed because then they will be proven wrong and they themselves will feel like they have accomplished nothing.

So as far as your network marketing business goes it is definitely not easy. There may not be blood put into your business but there is a lot of sweat and maybe even tears and a handful of frustration but you have to remember that it will be worth it in the end when you rise to the top because you never gave up.

The Five Steps to Success in a Home Based Business and in Life

In any home based business just as in life we all have some idea of what success means to us. In this article I am going to give you the five steps to success, which will help you begin the journey of a successful business and a successful life.

Step 1: Define Success

If you were to ask everyone to define success they would all come up with a different answer. So to find out what success means to you, you will need to list them as quickly as they come to you on a piece of paper. This could be anything from material possessions like a new car to personal items that mean something only to you. An example of that would be to spend time with your aging parents and be able to stay as long as you want. Not being told you can only stay a week because that is all that your job allows.

Once this task is complete, take 30 minutes or so to do this, you then have to sit and prioritize that list. This has to be done on a happiness scale. So whatever will give you the most satisfaction and make you the happiest will be rated as #1.

This list will help you to focus on what will improve your life significantly.

Step 2: Asking the Why

Once you have defined success you need to take a closer look at why you want to be successful. Does this mean you will have more freedom, less stress, a better relationship with your family etc? Once you have your why you will increase your ability to succeed but you need to review that why daily. Post this somewhere that you can see it daily so you will be motivated to keep going when times get tough.

Step 3: Assess Your Situation

You first need to know where you are so you can determine the best way to get where you want to go. To do this you need to take the list that you developed in step one and assess how close you are to reaching those goals. You may be close to reaching some but still have work to do to reach others but with work and perseverance you can achieve all of those goals.

Step 4: Determine a Course of Action and Start Your Journey

Just like taking a road trip you need to chart your course so you can determine the most direct route. To do this you need to follow the twelve success factors previously posted and remember that you are not alone. Seek the information that you require by people that have been there and done that. Educate yourself and find a good coach that can offer guidance when you need it.

Once you have determined your course of action start immediately.

Step 5: Chart Your Progress

Make sure that you stop at regular intervals so that you can chart your progress. This helps you stay on track and helps you to determine if you are where you wanted to be at the right time. Making sure that you are on track also keeps you motivated to keep going. By seeing how far you have come and how close you are to reaching the goals on your list will renew your energy and help you to keep pressing forward.

There is much fear out in the world as the global economy seems to be faltering. The recession that started months ago is definitely beginning to show in all areas, the auto industry, mortgage companies etc. I was listening to an economist on the radio the other day and he stated that some states are in such a deep recession, that they are actually in a depression but nobody wants to say that word as there is enough fear portrayed in society already as uncertainty arises every day in the economy.

Now, however is not the time for that same fear to grip us as entrepreneurs. We have so much to share and so much to offer to these people that it would be unjust for us not to offer an opportunity to those who may need it, and the knowledge to those who aspire to greatness. More people now then in the last few years are looking at ways to make a second income. It could be to retain their lifestyle or it could be the need to pay the mortgage and buy groceries. Whatever the reason, people are looking for options.

The same economist also stated that 11.5% of the people that have lost their jobs have also lost the hope of finding a new one and have adversely lost the motivation to seek employment. They are left to live on what little the government has left to offer them. Entrepreneurs are the people that can help to turn their life around!! We can provide hope for their future.

For those companies that are not in deep debt now this will be great entrepreneurial times. It is the small businesses, the home based businesses that will survive these hard times and get this economy moving forward once again.

Fellow entrepreneurs! Now is not the time for us to stand down. This is not the time for us to think negative thoughts that will add focus toward the suffering economy. We need to stay strong, dig deep within ourselves and get ready to push forward with our business in a way that only entrepreneurs can.

Etiquette on Social Networking Sites

According to Wikipedia social networking sites started as early as 1995 but were used at that time mainly for friends to reconnect. It began to flourish as a component of business Internet strategies in 2005. So here we are today, only three years after it was first introduced as a business strategy and it is pretty much accepted as mainstream as social networks connect people at low cost. This is beneficial for both entrepeneurs and small businesses as they look at expanding their contact base.If you are not on social network sites then you are not in business.

We are all excited about the home-based business that we promote, but sometimes we tend to be a little over zealous when it comes to promoting on the social network sites that we belong to.

There are a few things to keep in mind when you join a social site.

When you join a social group of any kind please remember to be social. Yes it is even in the name. So many people come into a group and you never hear from them. I have tried to add people as friends and they do not respond to me at all. Either accept a friendship or decline it but by not doing anything it tells me that you are one of those people that sign up for things but never do any more then just that.

Never accept someone’s friendship and then bombard him or her right away with your business opportunity. That’s not being a good friend. If you did that with people you meet face-to-face I am afraid that you really would not have many friends. This holds true on social sites also. Chances are if you send your information off to someone right away they don’t even look at it. It will be a quick delete because they do not even know you.

People do take the time to post blogs and start discussions on all the social sites that I belong too. There is fantastic content within those posts from many people who have walked the walk of multilevel marketing. Please take the time to read those blogs. Maybe you cannot read them all, you may have to pick and choose but there is valuable information within those posts. Please, whatever you do, DO NOT add a comment to any blogs or discussion that have nothing to do with the content involved. This IS NOT the place to put an advertisement for the business you are offering.

There may be no such thing as etiquette on social networking sites and maybe there are no rules that are set in stone but if we could all have the same consideration on social sites as we do when we meet people everyday then we will all have a much more rewarding experience.

How to Be Self Motivated

You’ve probably heard the saying, “If it is to be it’s up to me”. No one else can achieve success for you, it’s a decision and a choice you have to make every day. Everyone experiences challenges and days where you just don’t feel motivated. How do we rise above that and stay focused?

BLOGS AS A MARKETING TOOL

To blog or not to blog that is the question.

Have you asked yourself that question before? If you have you are among the many small home based business owners that are confused about marketing yourself and your products online?

In this time when the economy is no longer about what is happening locally we all have to change our way of doing business. This is now a global economy and what better way to get your knowledge and your expertise out to the masses then investing a bit of time and energy into blogs as a marketing tool.

When I first started my own blog a few years ago I just wrote little paragraphs here and there about things that I thought people may want to know. I am sure that the search engines did not even notice me as I was not using any of the many keywords that they look for as far as content in my written blog.

If you are unsure about having a written blog you can always tackle something that I love doing and that is a video blog that you post on YouTube. If you have an artistic flair or if you are like my mother, she cannot draw a straight line with a ruler, you will still be able to make a top notch video with pictures that you can use from the internet. But yes, you should remember to use the proper key words there also!!

I have recently discovered a program called 180daystogreatness that has taught me the skills that I need to market myself and my products online. I have also found other internet marketing tools that not only help me build my blog traffic but have helped me with my viral marketing campaigns, social networking sites and more!!

You are probably looking at the title to this article and think that I am totally off the wall. What the heck do these two things have in common? More then what you can ever imagine and I will share what I know from personal experience.

I ordered an exercise machine years ago, a great little piece of exercise equipment that gave me a workout just putting it together. I remember the day it arrived, I was all excited, just like a little child at Christmas. I ran, got a pair of scissors and frantically opened the box, tore apart all the Styrofoam just to get to the machine inside!!

Disappointment #1 I had to assemble the thing. I did realize that there was SOME assembly required but the word some was very understated. So in a very meticulous way I separated all the pieces, laid them out on the floor just like in the diagram carefully counting every nut and bolt to ensure that I could build it to the specifications in the book. I am not talking pamphlet here, I am talking a book!! After a very trying evening I managed to get this equipment together and there in front of me were spare parts on the floor. It looked good, it worked so I figured they must have shipped extra pieces just in case!!

I donned the shirt that came with the equipment looked in the mirror and low and behold disappointment # 2. I did not look like that lady in the commercials that wears this shirt. I bought this equipment, assembled it, wore the shirt what more did I have to do? Oh that’s right I actually had to set up an exercise routine and USE the equipment.

After a few days of looking at the book and rearranging my schedule I started the exercises only to find out, yup you guessed it disappointment #3, it wasn’t nearly as much fun as it looked on TV! There was actually work involved; trying to get in shape is work there is no fun there at all!!

Now let’s see what is involved in your network marketing business. Someone spoke to me about a product that is the best thing since sliced bread. Hypes up the opportunity and states that it will be fun and easy to build a six figure income quickly and then you can sit back and reap the rewards for the rest of your life.

Now this is how that played out in the real world. I got all excited about the opportunity so I ordered a starter kit that gave me some products to use and all the information required to start building my wealth. I anticipated the day that it arrived and when it did, just like a child at Christmas I ripped open the package (didn’t need scissors this time) and poured all the contents out onto the floor anxiously looking over the contents to see the start of my successful business and a whole new life.

Disappointment #1, there is hardly any product but a whole bunch of literature that needs to be read. Nobody said anything about ALL this literature!!

Feeling a little overwhelmed at this point I dutifully put all the product away so it will be ready for use and pile all the literature to read tonight after supper. The excitement does come back slowly and I call a friend or two and tell them about this great new business that I just got involved in and guess what, here it comes, disappointment #2. That’s right they laughed, how dare they laugh at me when I am only trying to better my position in life!!

I called my sponsor and they say oh don’t worry about them they are just dream stealers you just need to make more calls and talk to more people. So I do as I am told only to be laughed at more so I call my sponsor once again and here comes disappointment #3, I find out that they have moved on to the next best thing out there and they no longer want to talk to me about that old business.

So in my frustration I pack up all the product and the literature in the box that it came in and put it out of site for a while until I decide what to do with it. Heck I might as well put it on top of the exercise equipment because that is just gathering dust anyway!!

So now do you see what both of these have in common? Whether you are building an exercise program or a successful internet marketing business there is no success in life without a game plan, a schedule, clear defined goals and the ability to educate yourself on the tasks at hand.

The Network Marketing Tipping Point

There is a certain point in your network marketing business that is known as the tipping point. If you can remember the old English District Scales that were perfectly balanced with what looked like a dish on each side you can maybe visualize what this tipping point may look like. You add the same amount of pebbles to each side but all it will take is just one extra grain of sand to make the scale tip like it is much heavier.

Your network marketing business is just like the scale above. You work at it sometimes for weeks, months or even years depending on the amount of time that you work your network marketing business each day. You work and work but it seems like it is going absolutely no where and then out of the blue it just starts to take off and gets to have such momentum it is like it has a life of its own. The problem is that it takes a lot of work and a lot of effort to get to that point. A lot of people do not see the results that they want and they think that they are doing all this for nothing and they give up just before that tipping point, just before their business is about to explode.

Just when you think that there is absolutely nothing more that you can do and you want to give up because your home based business is going no where you have to keep going, you have to persevere because the next person that you get into your business or the next function that you attend just may be the tipping point in your business that will cause it to explode to unparalleled growth.

So don’t ever give up because that tipping point may be around the next corner.

180 Days to Greatness – A Marketing Experiment – My Personal Journey November 9, 2008

Hello, Suzanne Lavigne here for my weekly update on my personal journey in the group “180 Days to Greatness”.

It has been yet again a very interesting week!! All the things that I have learned within the last 39 days for my home based business are all starting to fall into place and make sense to me. When I first started with the 180daystogreatness program, activities DID get done but let’s face it they all just did not make sense at first. I did what I was told to do but I think that some of the time I probably looked like one of my dogs that sits there with their heads cocked when they are trying to get something figured out and they are totally confused. With the puzzle pieces falling into place I am confident that I am learning at a rate that will not only ensure success online for myself but best of all for others that I can help and guide in the right direction so that their dreams can come true also. I of course will not become too placid with my learning as I know that coach, Nadira Haniff, will have some new and very interesting activities ahead of us in the weeks to come. Activities that I am sure will have me cocking my head at first and I will be stretched to my limits once again but I will learn what I need and overcome the challenges.

This week I posted my third YouTube video. I am getting much faster at creating them and my views are also increasing!! That is great news on both counts. The social groups that I have started are really starting to attract people and I am thankful that I can start to help others in their business. The friends that I am also making around the world are wonderful. It still amazes me that we can be friends with others on the other side of the world!! Technology is so great!!

Listening, the Silent Skill to Success

Has someone ever asked you a question and before you could give him or her an answer they finished your sentence or cut you off with their opinion. Well, you are not alone. We all think that we are great listeners but if you are more aware of what listening is not, you may find yourself doing one of the following.

If you start to formulate a response before the person is done speaking then you are no longer actively listening to what they are saying. All you can think about is what YOU are going to say so you really are no longer paying attention to the conversation any more.

Turning the conversation back to you. You know what, not everything has to be about you. Just because you had something similar, or you went to the same place for vacation you really need to let the person talk about their adventure. When the conversation goes back to you all the time nobody really wants to say anything anymore because they just have to listen to things about you. Even more so they just may see you coming and run in the other direction.

Pushing your beliefs on others. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and you don’t always have to give yours freely to others. You will always run into someone who has different beliefs. Who knows, you may learn something if you actually listen.

Being a run-on talker. You know these types. They call and you have to overcome the fear of answering the phone because you know that you will be on the phone all night. You can set the phone down, leave the room, go for coffee, come back and they haven’t missed you at all. They didn’t even know that you were gone. I have a sister like this.

Finishing off someone’s sentence. Don’t always assume that you know what someone is going to say. They might go off in a totally different direction at the end of the sentence and you may miss some valuable information.

Trying to fix everyone’s problems when they are telling them to you is very frustrating for the other person. Sometimes they just need to tell someone and in the process the find the solution themselves.

Saying to someone “I know what you mean”. Do you really understand? You cannot read anyone’s mind so telling someone that you know what he or she means is really inappropriate.

You are always right. Everyone else is always wrong. It is our need to be right all the time as human beings that cause so much conflict in the world.

These are just a few things that we do wrong when we are listening to people. If you are the person that has any of the above traits you are diminishing the other person. It invalidates who they are.
Now that you are aware of what we do when we are listening you have the conscious choice to change how we listen. Keep the focus on the other person so that they feel valued and important. People like to be around others when they feel that they matter and that someone cares about them.

People that are successful in business listen to others. Now is the time to change this aspect of your business life.

Success by Definition

What is success? Success is defined in the New Lexicon Webster’s Encyclopedic Dictionary as follows: “the accomplishment of what is desired or aimed at//attainment of wealth, fame prosperity etc.” Even though there is a true definition for success, we all have our own idea of what success means to us.

When people start in a business of their own you hear them say “I want to be successful.” When you ask them to elaborate for you it varies greatly from the stay at home mom who would like to make an extra $1000.00 to help pay the mortgage and build her self-esteem by contributing to the household income, to the father of three who would like to match his income so that he can work from home and be with his family more, to the person who wants it all. A business that allows them to work from home, set their own hours, spend more time with their family, vacation when and where they want and enough money that not only they can live comfortably but also their children and grandchildren.

When speaking to these people as a coach and mentor you have to be very careful not to cross the line and try to build a business larger then what each person wants. Yes, as time goes on some may change their mind and want to shoot for the stars but we cannot force that upon those that are not willing.

As your group grows be sure to listen to all those that are in your business and help them to build the business to THEIR level of success, not yours. Only by doing so will you really be able to say that you are a true leader.

A Strong Foundation is Essential

In the world we live in today we are all use to getting what we want, when we want it. Working for anything and waiting until we can afford it has become obsolete. We all want instant gratification.

Turn Downline Questions Into Leadership Training Opportunities

In direct sales and network marketing, you have the incredible opportunity to build an organization of independent distributors and receive compensation on the sales volume they generate. Your organization’s size can be in the hundreds, the thousands, the tens of thousands, and beyond. However, whether you have one distributor in your downline or one hundred thousand, you do not have enough hours in the day to answer each and every question from them. Remember, they are supposed to be INDEPENDENT distributors and an effective leader will treat them as such. If not, the leader will cease to lead and will instead slip into that dangerous condition known as “management mode.”

A more prudent way to handle questions from your downline is to turn each question into an opportunity to train that distributor. For example, if John Doe asks, “Can I sign up someone who lives in France?” then you would direct her to her back office or company website and ask her to look at the list of countries in which your company does business.

This serves a number of purposes, including:
a) John finds her answer on her own which develops self-confidence;
b) John familiarizes herself with her back office or company website; and,
c) Most importantly, John will have the opportunity to personally read the list of other open countries for potential business.

You must resist the urge to answer basic questions like this, even if you know the answer off the top of your head. It is important to train your distributors on HOW to find information so they can work as independently as possible on the small details. That way, the time you spend with them can be used productively to prospect, enroll new distributors, and to build your relationships.

Embrace the philosophy that “every question is an opportunity for training” and watch your distributors become more independent, more confident, and more productive. Don’t be a manager – be a leader!

Hello, Suzanne Lavigne here once again for my weekly update on my personal journey in the group “180 Days to Greatness”.

Once again it has been an astounding week!!

Just when I think that there is not possibly anything else that I can learn, anything else that I can possibly squeeze into my already packed schedule out comes an e-mail from our outstanding coach Nadira Haniff. There is one more activity that we should start adding into our regimen if we really would like our business to reach the goals that were set out at the beginning of this program. Like a real trooper that is ready to take action on the spur of a moment I tackle this activity like it is a matter of life and death. I know after 25 days that I need to act now without hesitation. One thing that really amazed me this week was when I had a business phone me – that’s right, they phoned me – asking for information about my product. That is something that has never happened to me before. Take Action Today, Reap the Rewards Tomorrow

You need to create the habit of ACTION. Not an easy task. If taking action were easy, you would already be wealthy. Your ability to take action is what separates you from becoming successful or staying mediocre.Does this sound familiar?

Today I will start eating right and will exercise.

Today I will stop smoking. This is the day that I will start the process of becoming my own boss.

K.I.S.S. Your Prospect

If it seems that you are having a hard time getting people interested in your business, it may be that you are giving out far too much information.

We are all excited about the business that we are promoting, but it seems that the one obstacle a new person has to overcome is the fact that they want to tell their prospects everything that they know. The new person has a case of what is known as “verbal diarrhea.” They talk and talk and lose their prospect on the very first contact. If you are having a face-to-face contact, you can notice their interest fade when their eyes start to glaze over and they start to look around. If you are on the phone the person on the other end tends not to respond when you finally do pause for a moment. These people are looking for a way to escape and are probably hanging onto the conversation to be polite.

What we need to remember about that first contact is to Keep It Super Simple. It should only last between 45 – 60 seconds and we call this “an elevator speech.” If you keep it simple the prospect will become inquisitive and ask questions and once they start to ask questions you know that they are interested. The more questions they have the better it is for you. Those questions can usually be answered by sending them to an informative website, sending them a video link or mailing them out some printed material. When you do get back for a second contact if there are questions that are still not answered than you have the ability to answer them then.

So remember to K.I.S.S your prospects and you will get your business off to a great start.

Success Comes with a Price

Success in business comes with a price we all have to pay. There are very few that are willing to sacrifice and give up a few things in order to achieve the success and greatness that we all strive for with our home based business.

I am not expecting people to give up their family time, church or their exercise routines (we all want to be strong and healthy so we can enjoy the fruits of our labour). I am talking about the mundane activities that we do every day. The one that comes quickly to mind and takes up most of our time, but we find so hard to do without, is the hours that we spend in front of the TV. Do you really think that your one tiny vote will be the deciding factor on who wins the next Canadian/American idol or if you don’t watch CSI that those investigators will never catch their man?

We as a society waste so much time being couch potatoes that we let our lives pass us by without a second glance. Those hours spent in front of the TV can be replaced by activities that will move you forward in your business and help you achieve financial freedom.

You need to make the decision, and make that decision now to give up that TV for the success of your business. I know that it is a price that I am willing to pay!!

Are You Ready to Build a Thriving Home Based Business?

If you are ready to build a thriving home based business then pay close attention to the words of Dale Carnegie who said: "You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you."

Unfortunately, most salespeople do not spend enough time letting their customer talk to develop a solid relationship.

When trying to understand how to network, we need to learn that “networking is about forming relationships and creating win-win situations.”

In order to help the other person we have to look for a solution to a problem they have.

That solution might be simply passing along a pertinent piece of information. It may be by giving them a referral, or making an introduction. It doesn't matter in what way you help people. The important thing is that you give freely and often.

You see, that's what distinguishes the Networking Superstar from someone who simply networks. It's his/her ability to understand the importance of making things happen for other people instead of concentrating all their energy on themselves.

You've heard it a million times: what goes around comes around; people support people who support them. Simply help enough other people get business and the business you are seeking will, in turn, come your way.

How are you supposed to know what people need or how you can help? It's very simple: become a good listener. Listen to what they say...and to what they don't say. Provide solutions before they even know they have a problem. The act of giving applies to all facets of our lives.

Information is power so you have to use your brain as a file cabinet. Store every resource, every contact, every idea you've ever had, any article you have read, and all your expertise in there and draw on its contents freely and often to help other people. They, in turn will help you. That is how you create win-win situations. And that is how your business begins to grow.

Give openly and freely, expecting nothing in return. It may not come back to you immediately. It may not come back to you directly, but it will come back to you eventually.

Hello, Suzanne Lavigne here once again for my weekly update on my personal journey in the group “180 Days to Greatness”. Well let me see how best I can explain this past week.

WOW!! Wow and even a few more WOW’s because I am at a loss for words!! But I will try.

I have made calls to people that I know I NEVER would have spoke to before I enrolled in this program. The mindset that I now have has armed me with such confidence that I am sure that I can speak to anyone. In this past week I have made 90 telephone calls and from those calls I am sending out 58 packets of information to people who are interested in my product from my Primary business!

I am also speaking to people one-on-one, which is a little harder to track as that is an ongoing relationship that is built and like all good relationships it takes time.

The marketing that I am now doing online is an area that I really was lacking in before I started the 180DaysToGreatness Program. I knew all along that there were so many different ways to market online but I just did not know how to go about getting started. But with the hands on approach that Nadira Haniff has utilized with this program I am able to do more online marketing and I know that with perseverance I can only excel in this area also.

SUPER-SIZED, DOWN-SIZED, AND GLOBALIZED The Changing Face of America’s Workplace

America’s workplace has changed. People my age (Gen-X’ers) will change careers six times. Corporate America has down-sized and Small Business is now Big Business! Several Key Factors to Look for when Choosing a home based business:

Infrastructure. In their new book: “Why We Want You to be Rich” Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki talk about leverage. Smart people LEVERAGE themselves for maximum profitability. America’s first billionaire, J. Paul Getty said: “I’d rather have 1% of 100 people’s efforts than 100% of my own. Kiyosaki says, “Successful people look for and build Networks everyone else just looks for work.” Whether it’s a home based business, or traditional business; ask yourself, “Is the infra-structure and network in place to sustain long term growth and expansion?
Use the Internet. Don’t fear it, use it. You don’t have to be a “nerd” to “cash-in” on this trend that has only just begun. Get on social networks and start blogging. Let people find you and use your help as the expert you are.

Why the Confusion about Network Marketing?

Some people just don’t get it when you ask them about Network Marketing. Without any valid evidence to rest their case upon, they dismiss it as “one of those things.” Surely it’s a scam!!

A scam? Yes, there are plenty of scams out there in the free world, but done properly and with integrity, network marketing is not one of them. Are there companies using the network marketing business model who do not operate with integrity or without the best interest of their customers? Of course, but they exist in traditional business as well. So do your homework, as you would when evaluating any business.

Let’s look at a traditional business model and dissect one big difference between the two models. That difference would be advertising.

Traditionally, if a business has a product or service to get into the marketplace, research would be done to determine exactly what kind of penetration could be made after implementing various advertising methods. The cost of advertising would be a serious redline on the balance sheet until sales were made to get the company in profit. This example is extremely simplified for illustration, but the point is this – no sales typically occur until after advertising is made, and even then, it’s a crap shoot.

Now let’s look at the model used in network marketing. Here, all advertising is done through word-of-month. Then, the “fee” for advertising (which is done through individual distributors), is not paid out UNTIL product or service is sold. This just makes good business sense. Although there are many risks involved in starting any business, the risk of paying for advertising while not knowing (and only guessing) the outcome of the advertising, often an extremely high expense for any business, is virtually eliminated.

Who are you more likely to trust -- Your friend, a billboard or random magazine ad?
Network marketing is not a scam; it is simply a way of rewarding those who take the time to let others know about a needed product or service. Do some real investigating and learn the facts before you dismiss this growing business model.

Unless you’ve been living under a ROCK, you undoubtedly know what blogs are and if you don't, a blog is: A website with regular entries of content. That content could be ANYTHING - commentary, rants, raves, descriptions of events, etc. And it can include graphics, video and audio.

Why are blogs so IMPORTANT? They allow people to communicate, to say anything, anytime, anywhere, across the country and across the world. We as human beings LOVE to express ourselves in so many different ways and a blog is yet another way for us to communicate via the internet.

So why are blogs important to your business? Because they allow you to communicate with your audience. You're in business to provide a product or service to your customer, right? People need to know about you and your product. The ongoing RELATIONSHIP with your business partners, your downline, and your customers are essential.

A blog allows the home business owner or network marketer to constantly let their audience know what they’re doing. Here are some of the other things you as a business owner can do with your Blog:

Run a contest
Launch a new product
Run a training course
Take a poll
Have your users subscribe to a newsletter
Sell a product or service

The most popular blogs that folks use are Wordpress and Blogger which is owned by Google. You can either host your own blog, in which case you have to purchase hosting space from a web hosting provider, or you can let Wordpress or Blogger host your blog for you.

To create, manage, and add content to your blog might seem daunting at first, but Wordpress and Blogger are super easy to learn. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be a blogging pro in no time.

One last thing - search engines just love blogs! Why? Because if you provide your blog with content on a frequent basis, and your topics are on focus, Google will eventually pick up your blog content and index it which means it will be searchable on Google.

Network Marketing – A Relationship Business

Network marketing is all about building relationships with other people. Just like it is in everyday life, and you have to treat it as such. Network marketing is not about being “that car salesman”. With that type of mentality you will not get far and will probably fail.

Relationships are about being honest and trustworthy. When you put the relationship first, customers and clients will forgive your mistakes and work with you.

Relationships are about giving unconditionally. A prospect that receives personal attention is more likely to do business with you than your competitor. My business inspires hope, dignity & pride within me, and I especially love sharing those dynamics with others, as they see "the light come on" for themselves, as they find the same value and benefit.

As each person in your downline is busy building their business, they are also building yours as well. That's the power of leverage. Good customers often, by word of mouth, promote businesses in ways unimaginable. Viral marketing is one of the most powerful sales tools available. If you make it a point to put integrity first, that will resonate with your customers and they will think of you as a representative of a trustworthy company.

Unfortunately, I think we sometimes get swept away by all that "hype and close" and forget to apply our own personal beliefs to our business. The definition of a relationship is a connection or involvement. Make a Living or Design a Life

We all have choices in life. One of the biggest choices we’ll make in life is best said in a quote by Jim Rohn, “ We all have two choice: We can make a living or design a life.” Think about that for just a moment. What would it be like to design your life ANY way you’d like? Imagine the feeling of literally owning your life, to do what you want when you want to do it. To take a vacation where you want, when you want and stay as long as you choose to do so as money is no longer ruling how you live your life.

It’s a way of life that many dream of, but relatively few experience. So what’s the difference? Some are willing to pay the price while others settle for mediocrity. Some are willing to do what it takes today so they can live the life that they dream of tomorrow. Those people realize that there is no such thing as instant gratification but will settle for the rewards of there work in the future. 180 Days to Greatness – A Marketing Experiment – My Personal Journey October 12, 2008

Hello, Suzanne Lavigne here once again for my weekly update on my personal journey in the group “180 Days to Greatness”. Well it has now been 12 days that we have been on this marketing journey, with lots of work the previous week that went on behind the scenes to get us all ready for the big launch.

How was this past week? Well, the marketing strategies which we apply to grow your business and succeed in this group are demanding and I mean real challenging! My head is full and how much more can I take? I really am thankful that my brain can add knowledge but it does not expand like a balloon when adding air or I am sure at this point I would not be able to fit through any doors!

I slacked off for a couple of days due to a health issue only to be thrown a lifeline by our coach Nadira Haniff. Was it one of those warm fuzzy “Don’t worry about it, hope you are feeling better soon” lifelines. No, it was just only a tiny bit of fuzzy, more of “winning is not easy”. “This is only acceptable once and if it happens again you may get VOTED OFF!” Yikes! A little harsh I thought but let me tell you I am so very grateful for the reality check.

It made me realize that there was no goofing around in this group. I would be made to do my thing, learn new skills, and hone the ones that I have acquired. I would have to be accountable just like the others in the group for everything that was expected of me. What will be my reward when I complete this 180 day challenge to greatness? I will have a phenomenal business of my own both on line and offline. The skill set and mindset required to succeed not only in business but in life and the confidence that only comes after you complete something extraordinary.

What Once was Old is New Again

Everything that comes and goes is considered a trend. Depending on your age you may remember those large bell bottom pants (I use to call them elephant pants) the bottoms were so big you nearly tripped over the other pant leg when you were walking or do you remember those satin shirts that looked like they were made from the same design as a bed spread. Actually I think that those clothes have come again. I am now regressing and I should get back to the topic at hand. As can be seen trends come and go only to be reborn by the next generation as something new and exciting. These trends seem to happen in every facet of life not just clothes. Even the cars we are driving reflect the style of vehicles of earlier times.

Years ago everything was purchased, traded, or bartered for by word of mouth. This trend has been making a come back over the past sixty years but in more recent times has really caught on with the public as people are hungry for personal attention. Aren’t we all tired of going into the big box stores where we wondered around forever trying to find someone that can help us?

Here is a quote taken from the book by Daniel pink as was stated in the book titled “The World is Flat” by Thomas L. Friedman, Economist and three time Pulitzer Prize winner.

“To flourish in this age, we’ll need to supplement our well developed high- tech abilities with aptitudes that are “high concept” and “high touch.” High concept involves the ability to create artistic and emotional beauty, to detect patterns and opportunities, to craft a satisfying narrative, and to come up with inventions the world didn’t know it was missing. This is what Network Marketing is all about. It is reaching out to other people, touching their lives so that they can live their life to the fullest.
